Culture and Cognitive paradigms. A three part series

My creative investigation is an auto-ethnographic exploration of the interplay between culture and cognitive paradigms, seeking to discern the manifestations of this influence within the realms of creative expression, approach, and aesthetic transformations. Through seven carefully crafted paintings divided into three series, I delve into the profound influence of my native country Nigeria, Western culture, and the synthesis of both in my work. Each painting weaves together the ties of my background and the impact of the Western world, resulting in a visual journey that’s a mix of both influences.

Series 1

This series focused on examining the influence of Nigeria on my thought process. I discovered that when focusing and meditating my thoughts on Nigeria, I always needed to have a theme to guide the particular expression of my artistry.

Series 2

Having attended a French school from ages 4 to 16, where French became my first language, and living in Canada for the past six years, I've explored the influence of Western culture on my art in this series. I discovered that my creative expression has evolved from being primarily conceptual to becoming more expressive and dynamic. My focus shifted to simply creating art for the joy of it.

Series 3

This series focuses on juxtaposing the two discoveries and creative expressions from my earlier works. The common thread linking all my pieces is the profound influence of my parents' love. Their dedication shaped my upbringing in Nigeria, instilled a deep appreciation for the French language and culture, and supported my transition to life in Canada. This foundation of love and support has deeply influenced my artistic journey, allowing me to explore and integrate diverse cultural experiences into my work.
